Alaska Teacher Job Fair Just Three Weeks Away

Alaska Teacher Job Fair Just Three Weeks Away

It is starting to become “nervous” time for me. I am three weeks away from the Alaska teaching job fair in Anchorage. My flight and hotel are booked and jobs are starting to appear.

I really want to find a job up there for the next school year, but I know I can’t put all my eggs in one basket. I have found several districts that I want to teach at (all but 1 or 2 are in the bush). So far there has only been about 5-7 jobs posted that I qualify for.

This is why I am getting nervous. I know it is really early and most jobs will start to appear this month, but it still makes me nervous. These are huge huge districts like Dallas or Houston or somewhere. I feel there will be more jobs coming up in the coming weeks and I will continue to check (I check everyday).

However, with all of that being said I am also getting ready to apply for my certification here in Texas as a backup. It is not that I wouldn’t really want to teach here; I would just prefer Alaska. I love it here and I am sure I will be back one day, but I am ready for a change and really want it to be Alaska.

So I have been preparing for the job fair. I have contacted districts I want to teach in and have even scheduled one interview already. I am also working on my resume to hopefully make it stand out a little more.

I leave three weeks from tomorrow and in the mean time I am going to work more to keep myself busy and keep my mind off of how nervous I am about going to the fair and not securing a job.
