Certification Complete; Job Fair Here I Come

I am officially certified to teach Social Studies 6-12 in the state of Florida now. Too bad I have no intention of teaching in Florida.

I do not have anything against the state, although its not a favorite. There are a lot of nice people and places there, but it is not home. And I don’t really want to make it home.

Instead I am going to start the process of transferring my certification to Alaska and/or Texas. Texas is home, but Alaska has really been where I want to land. I have done a lot of research on living in Alaska and it is something I really want to do.

Eventually I feel I will wind up back overseas somewhere. I’d love to return to Korea or somewhere else in Asia. I think I want to retire in South America. And I’d love to teach for a few years in the Middle East. But right now Alaska is where I am putting most of my efforts into.

As soon as all my paperwork is in hand I will send my application off to become certified in Alaska. I have also booked a flight to attend the Alaska Teacher Placement job fair in Anchorage at the end of March. I’m very excited about that and the possibility of landing a job somewhere.

I have quite a few school districts I am interested in. I will be sending out emails to the administrators in those districts very soon in order to introduce myself and let them know I am interested in working with them. Hopefully that will help me land a few more interviews at the job fair and in the end a job.

It is going to be a stressful few months ahead as I look to land my first teaching job. But I’m hopeful things will turn out well and I will wind up in a good place. I will keep you posted.
