Alaskan Show: Flying Wild Alaska

I have been called obsessed about Alaska lately, and maybe that is a fair description. With that being said, I just finished up the Discovery Channel series Flying Wild Alaska. And I loved it.

I’ve been looking into living and teaching in the bush of Alaska where the villages do not have roads connecting them with the outside world. To me this is the most exciting part of living in Alaska but also the most terrifying. The only way in and out of most of these villages and towns is by airplane.

I am basically terrified of flying.

Well I do not like flying is a better way to say it. To me it is a necessary evil. I understand that sometimes you really need to fly, and when that is the case I will do it. As is the situation with living in most of the bush villages in rural Alaska.

However, after watching the series I do not fear flying in Alaska as much as before. That doesn’t mean that if I get that far I won’t be a tiny bit frightened when I am in that small plane. But it won’t be a reason why I would decide not to go.  It actually adds to the romanticism of living out there.

The show is actually quite good, and I would recommend it to anyone. I doesn’t matter if you want to move to Alaska or not. The show is good and it really does a great job of showing off the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness which is one of the things that is really drawing me toward the state.

I am a long way away from the possibility of moving to Alaska, but I am still very interested in doing just that.
