A Little Homesickness and the 4th of July

There isn’t a whole lot that makes me homesick. Sure I miss Christmas with family or my mom’s cooking at Thanksgiving, but for the most part I don’t get homesick. Today was a little different though.

I really like the 4th of July back home. The BBQs, days by the pool, fireworks, watching a little daytime baseball, and spending time with friends was always something to look forward to. It’s one of my favorite holidays and I have a lot of great memories.

I saw today that the army base here in town does fireworks, but I work too late to see them. I remember as a kid going with others to Ft. Hood near home to watch the huge firework display. Or when I was older and living in Dallas going to either Lake Grapevine with friends or the Rangers game to see fireworks. I always had a great time, and for some reason this year I missed it more than most.

I can’t even tell you what I did last year on the 4th of July. This year I got to work. So the day was rather uneventful. Now I sit here at 11pm and think about all my friends and family with the day off back home gearing up for a barbecue or planning out where they will watch the fireworks display. It makes me miss home a little.

The good thing is this feeling will pass by the time I go to sleep. I know tomorrow is another day, and I’ll go on like nothing happened and my homesickness will be gone.

I hope everyone has a great 4th back home. Have a hot dog or some BBQ for me and enjoy the fireworks.

Happy Birthday America!

There were no fireworks anywhere near here due to the complete lack of rain… I watched some on TV though! ๐Ÿ™‚
