I Have Been Bitten by the Travel Bug

Before I decided to fully commit and come to South Korea to work, I talked to my sister-in-law who has more traveling experience than anyone else in my family.  She told me two things prior to leaving that have stuck with me.  The first was write a journal.  That is partially what this is, but I also keep a written journal.  I am glad she told me to do this as I have been able to write down a lot of my thoughts on different things while I have been gone.  The second thing she told me was I was going to want to keep traveling, and she is right.

The travel bug has hit me hard.  I have always wondered what it is like in other countries.  Prior to me leaving for South Korea, I had bought a large wall map of the world.  I would sit and just look at random places around the world and wish I could travel there.  I have planned many trips around the world that will never happen.  I read so many travel blogs of people who have or are currently traveling the world, and it only makes me want to do it more and more.

Having the chance to travel around South Korea has been an amazing experience.  I have seen so much in the 7 months I have been here.  Wow has it really been 7 months?  But I feel like there is so much more to see and do.  I am planning a trip to Japan for September and another teacher and I have talked about buying a car in a few years and traveling around Europe.  Who knows if that will ever happen, but I know one thing for sure, I have been bitten by the travel bug.  Each week I look for other places to travel, and many times to see baseball or something war related.

Living abroad has taught me a lot about myself and other people, and I am so thankful for this experience.  I don’t know if I will re-sign at my current school but I know I don’t want to leave Korea.  I love it here and there is so much around that I still want to see.  In Asia alone there are so many places I want to see, and plan to do so over the next few years.

I think my dream would be to travel around the world in a year taking it slow to see and experience many places.  All the while taking in baseball in other countries.  Yes I am a bit of a baseball nut (see my other site Baseball Journeyman).  I think one can gain a lot of insight into a culture based on the experiences from sporting events, and I hope to see the world through baseball one day.
